Celtic secured their 56th league crown with a thrilling 3-1 comeback victory against Heart of Midlothian F.C. at Celtic Park, overcoming intense pressure in a winner-takes-all encounter.
Fondly called “Senior Man” by fans, Iheanacho played a key role after coming on at halftime with the score tied 1-1.
The Nigerian forward injected urgency and attacking energy into Celtic’s play as the hosts pushed desperately for the winning goal.
Daizen Maeda eventually broke Hearts’ resistance in the 87th minute before Callum Osmand added a stoppage-time goal to seal the title triumph and spark wild celebrations among the Celtic faithful.
Speaking after the victory while clutching the league trophy, Iheanacho admitted the tension inside Celtic Park was enormous.
“It feels good. It feels so good I can’t let go of this trophy,” Iheanacho said.
“It was a big tension and it’s a massive pressure. But we know what to do today and we did it. They were a very strong side. But God of Soccer was on our side today.”
The title marks the first top-flight league championship of Iheanacho’s professional career and adds another major honour to an already impressive collection.
The former Manchester City F.C. and Leicester City F.C. forward also expressed delight at finally winning another major trophy after a difficult spell in recent years.
“It’s another silverware for me. I wouldn’t want a silverware for a while now. But I’m happy I won a silverware with this massive club.”
Despite battling injuries earlier in the campaign, Iheanacho proved decisive during Celtic’s late-season title surge, including scoring a dramatic 99th-minute winning penalty against Motherwell that kept the club firmly in the championship race heading into the final weekend.
