Fikayo Tomori May Leave AC Milan In January, To Avoid Free Transfer Next Summer

AC Milan of Italy appear ready to offload their Nigerian-born centre back, Fikayo Tomori in the January transfer window, rather than allow him leave for free next summer, Sports247 gathered.

With Tomori’s current deal set to expire at the end of this season, the former Chelsea and Hull City of England stopper is sure to head out of San Siro, with a return to Queensland already being touted, but Milan won’t let him go for free.

Consequently, while the 28-year-old former England international, who was born to Nigerian parents in Canada, is no longer getting regular time with The Rossoneri, they still want to make some money on a deal for him in January.

Incidentally, the dark-skinned ace does not fit into Milan coach, Ruben Amorim’s plans and, when he got a chance to finally play, he could not save the team from a humbling 3-0 defeat by Bournemouth last week in the UEFA Europa League.

It was Tomori’s third game of the season and his struggle for form during the match only served to accentuate speculation that a January move could be on the table for him – before he becomes a free agent at the end of this season.

Dramatically, there is also growing debate over the most likely next port of call for Tomori, who has been at Milan since 2021, having initially arrived on loan from Chelsea before sealing a full contract at the peak of his excellence.

However, while Tomori’s contract is due to expire in 2027, Milan are not planning to offer him a renewal – and they have already indicated that they will be open to discussing business about a potential transfer for him in January.

A report by Tribal Football reveals, “Tomori is understood to favour a return to the Premier League at this stage, having previously rejected opportunities elsewhere, including an approach from Saudi Arabia.

“Newcastle and Chelsea are among the sides linked with him, although there is uncertainty over a realistic destination; while other Premier League sides that have been linked with Tomori, include Aston Villa.

“Crystal Palace, West Ham, Fulham and Everton have also emerged among the clubs linked with the former Chelsea defender, while Coventry City could offer an alternative route back to English football.

“Juventus have (also) been monitoring his situation in Italy. For now, Milan’s willingness to listen to offers would give Tomori a possible route out, and the coming weeks will be used to assess options.”
