While enthusing that the 2026 contest will uncover a new set of talented female footballers capable of progressing to the international stage, Ayegba, who is also a board member of the FCT FA, commended the participating teams for stepping forward from six area councils.

She added that the competition is designed to strengthen women’s football at the grassroots by providing young female players with competitive exposure and a step forward into top clubs, which was seen when promising players emerged from various teams in the 2025 version.

Ayegba enthused, “We are hoping to see new talents. We are hoping to have new emerging professionals and international stars. I am excited because, last year, we found some good talents from this particular tournament.
“We saw some newbies, and I want to see their progress. This year, a lot more is expected. To be honest with you, FCT FA has come up, and they are doing well with the whole preparation.

“Last year, I supported the teams with ₦120,000 each, of which I saw the FA taking it up from there, which is a lot. The FA has supported us a lot to make this happen. So, we are grateful.”

Sports247 gathered that this year’s vastly popular championship has teams from all six area councils of the FCT, divided into two groups – with Bwari, Gwagwalada and AMAC competing in Group A, while Abaji, Kuje and Kwali lock horns in Group B.

All group games of the competition will take place on home-and-away basis, from which the top two teams from each will move on to the semi-finals that are scheduled to take place on the 2nd of September, while the final is on September 5th.
