Nigeria PFL: Everton Promises Trophy For Akwa United

Akwa United of Uyo’s new coach, Rafael Everton has promised to help The Promise Keepers pick a major trophy in Nigeria in his first season in charge of the club.

The Brazilian soccer tactician stated as much during his unveiling in Uyo on Monday, during which sports247.ng learnt he expressed delight with the reception accorded him by the club’s management.

Indeed, the Uyo-based side’s chairman, Etobong Paul Bassey was beaming with delight at the ceremony, as the veteran former sports editor and publisher said a new dawn has come for Akwa United.

Bassey affirmed that the former FC Ifeanyiubah of Nnewi and Abia Warriors of Umahia handler has enough experience for the job, having also won the 2016 Federation Cup at his first club in Nigeria.

Akwa United won the Federation Cup last year and finished second in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) in the recently truncated season, but Bassey believes they will do even better under Everton, who arrives on a year’s contract.

Everton, who has now replaced Plateau United’s new coach, Abdu Maikaba, described his new club as a fresh challenge.

He added: “I believe in my work and I believe I can win a trophy for Akwa United. I like picking up new challenges, that pushes me to be great.”
