Bafana To Miss Several Top Players Against Nigeria

Bafana Bafana of South Africa will be without several of their key players for next weekend’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Nigeria, following injuries copped by a horde of stars in the team.

Although South Africa coach, Stuart Baxter braved all odds to name his list of invitees on Monday, sports247.ng gathered that the gaffer is taking a gamble of many half fit players.

Baxter reckons he will just have to keep faith with the possibility of some of the injured stars recovering before the November 17 match at FNB Stadium, Johannesburg, but admits a handful of others have been ruled out all together.

The report out of Johannesburg indicates that France-based duo, Bongani Zungu and Keagan Dolly, as well as home-based stars like Dean Furman, Bradley Grobler and Sibusiso Vilakazi are all doubtful for game due to injuries.’

Kamohelo Mokotjo of English Championship club, Brentford Town has already been ruled out, after he sustained injury against Norwich City in a 1-0 loss, during which he was substituted after 30 minutes.

Mokotjo had started and completed Bafana’s last three qualifiers, including the recent back-to-back clashes with Seychelles, and 0-0 draw with Libya in September.

However, after announcing his squad on Monday, said he remains positive for a good result by Bafana, who are currently second in Group E, with eight points from four games.

They need just three more points to guarantee their qualification to next year’s showpiece in Cameroon.

However, Nigeria are top of the standings, one point ahead, while Libya are on four points and Seychelles sit bottom with just one point.
