Enugu State have set their sight on winning gold in the male and female handball competitions of this year’s National Sports Festival in Abuja.
This is the charge of Enugu State Handball Association, Emmanuel Asogwa, who sports247.ng gathered is also thinking of the teams also making huge impacts in next year’s national handball leagues.
Asogwa stated as much, while confirmed that the state’s handball teams have started a week camping programme ahead of the 19th edition of the sports festival, scheduled for Abuja from December 6 to 16.
He also disclosed that 12 players and two coaches moved into camp on Friday and, with the camping expected to end on Thursday, expressed optimism that they would be able to make optimal use of the programme.
Asogwa said taking the players to camp was a move meant to give them total concentration and avoid distractions.
He added that the association wants the team to win laurels for the state and the south-east zone.
The association boss stated: “It will also help the players to strategise, as the Enugu male handball team will represent the South-East zone at the NSF in Abuja.
“We expect them to take it serious in order to enhance their performance when the games begins next month.
“We are also looking forward to seeing the state handball team take part in the country’s National Handball League in 2019.”
