England Legend Lineker lauds Iwobi

English legend Gary Lineker has expressed his admiration for Alex Iwobi after he scored a historic goal in Arsenal’s 4-1 loss to Chelsea in the final of the Europa League on Wednesday night.

Iwobi’s goal was a real stunner, scoring with a right-footed rocket from outside the area after Chelsea failed to clear their lines in the 69th minute.

The 23-year-old performance has caused several fans to question the decision to name him on the bench, as the Gunners blew another chance to qualify for the Champions League.

”That is one hell of a goal from Iwobi. We’ve seen some bonkers games in Europe this season. Not again, surely,” Lineker posted on his social media account.

Iwobi became the first Nigerian player to score in the final of a European club competition with the goal. A feat Finidi George, Mikel Obi, Nwankwo Kanu, Chidi Odiah, Stephen Keshi and others failed to achieve.

He debuted for Arsenal in 2005 and he is reported to have agreed to sign a long term contract to remain with Unai Emery’s men.
