NAIROBI, KENYA — Team Nigeria’s fortunes at the African Boxing Championships 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya, have received another major boost as Ajishola Khadijat demolished Kenya’s Amina Martha with a convincing 5–0 unanimous decision in the women’s bantamweight (51–54kg) category.
Competing in Bout 41 of Tuesday’s afternoon session, Khadijat delivered the result Nigeria desperately needed following a difficult start to the continental championship.
The Nigerian, fighting from the blue corner against her Kenyan opponent in the red corner, secured the verdict of all five judges, leaving no disagreement in the official decision.
Her victory comes barely a day after compatriot Ridwan Raheem reportedly defeated Algeria’s Ismail Bekhsis in the men’s welterweight (60–65kg) category.
The back-to-back victories represent an encouraging turnaround for a Nigerian contingent that had suffered five defeats during the competition.
Khadijat’s triumph carries additional significance considering the earlier controversial decisions involving Nigerian boxers, which generated disagreement among spectators and raised questions about officiating.
Unlike those disputed encounters, Tuesday’s result produced a unanimous verdict in Nigeria’s favour.
With Khadijat and Raheem providing renewed encouragement, attention now shifts to two other Nigerian female boxers scheduled for action.
Prious Iyabo faces Egypt’s Ayyad Yomna in the women’s welterweight (60–65kg) category, while Blessing Orakyue confronts Uganda’s Aiwine Diana in the women’s light heavyweight (75–80kg) division.
Both encounters offer Nigeria further opportunities to strengthen its campaign and improve its overall performance.
For the Nigeria Boxing Federation delegation, Khadijat’s victory provides a welcome morale boost and reinforces the belief that the country’s boxers can compete successfully against Africa’s leading talents.
After five defeats, Team Nigeria is fighting back — and Khadijat has delivered a powerful statement with a flawless 5–0 victory over the host nation’s representative.
