Big break for Nigerian teen! Ogunnaike joins Arsenal stars before Bayern battle

Nigerian-eligible defender Josh Ogunnaike has earned another opportunity to impress at Arsenal after joining the first-team squad in training ahead of the Gunners’ UEFA Champions League showdown with Bayern Munich.

The teenage left-back was among the academy players involved in Arsenal’s training session on Tuesday, October 20, as Mikel Arteta’s side prepared for Wednesday’s Matchday Three encounter at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

Ogunnaike’s inclusion highlights the continued opportunities available to young players within Arsenal’s academy as they seek to catch the attention of the senior coaching staff.

For Ogunnaike, the latest training opportunity represents another step in his development at the North London club.

The defender has previously been involved with Arsenal’s senior squad during pre-season, giving him valuable exposure to the demands of training alongside established first-team players.

The youngster has also made an impression at youth level. He has scored once in two appearances in the UEFA Youth League this season, underlining his contribution to Arsenal’s youth campaign.

His progress will be encouraging for supporters following the development of Nigerian-eligible talents in European football, particularly as Arsenal continue to provide academy players with opportunities to work alongside the senior squad.
However, training with the first team does not automatically mean Ogunnaike will be included in the matchday squad against Bayern. The defender is still awaiting his senior debut for Arsenal, and his immediate focus will be on continuing to develop and making the most of opportunities presented to him.

Arsenal face a major test against Bayern Munich on Wednesday, with both sides meeting at the Allianz Arena in a high-profile Champions League fixture.

While the attention will be on the senior stars tasked with delivering a result, Ogunnaike’s involvement offers another glimpse of a young defender working towards a breakthrough at one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

For the Nigerian-eligible teenager, the next challenge is turning first-team training exposure into a genuine opportunity to feature at senior level.
