A secondary school owned by popular south-south leader, Alhaji Mujahid Asari Dokubo, King Amachree Sports Academy (KASA) in Obuama, Rivers State, is unfolding new sports developmental plans, after winning the 26th Nestlé Milo Secondary Schools Basketball Championship.
Sports247 reports that Asari Dokubo’s school emerged champions of the competition’s male category by defeting last year’s winners, Father O’Connell Science College, Minna, Niger State 56-54 in the final at Lagos National Stadium, Surulere.
A media statement from the school popularly known as KASA disclosed that they have already put in place plans to build on the success by engaging a sports marketing outfit that will help them expand opportunities for student-athletes through improved education and sports ventures.
The school’s media release added: “Founded by Alhaji Mujahid Asari Dokubo, Amanyanabo of The Source, Elem Kalabari, KASA combines academic and sports development for young athletes.
“KASA’s victory came after a dramatic comeback in the closing stages of the boys’ final, securing the academy’s first national title after seven years of participation in the competition.
“Following the championship victory, the academy announced a five-year strategic partnership with EEXSport Digital Company Limited to strengthen its sports and academic programmes.
“Under the agreement, EEXSport Digital Company Limited, led by sports administrator and broadcaster, Emeka Enyadike, will provide technical and operational support in areas including sports management, academic development, sponsorship, marketing and international partnerships.
“While ownership and governance of the academy will remain unchanged, the development plan is structured around six focus areas: academic excellence, sports development, leadership training, international athlete pathways, community engagement and financial sustainability.”
Sports247 reports further that KASA also plans to establish an initiative tagged ‘International Athlete Pathways Programme’ that would connect their outstanding students with overseas training opportunities, scholarships and professional development projects.
