Sporting Lagos FC have set their eyes on August 13th for the commencement of their title defence at the annual Gold Cup pre-season football competition, which will this year take place at Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne and FC Ebedie Stadium, Sagamu, both in Ogun State.
Sports247 reports that Sporting Lagos are already confirmed as one of ten clubs that will jostle for honours in this year’s edition of the comeptition that serves as a build-up platform for clubs in the top-flight Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and second-tier Nigerian National Lague (NNL).

The NPFL returnees will aim to become the second club, after Remo Stars FC of Ikenne, to win the prestigious Gold Cup back-to-back, as Coach Jeff Buter will again put on his thinking cap to marshall his players towards winning the 14th edition, which will come to an end on August 22nd.
General-coordinator of the pre-season contest, Tunde Shamsudeen pointed out that the tournament continues fulfilling its objective of helping clubs prepare for the season and disclosed that the organisers expect another exciting chain of matches during this year’s competiion.
Shamsudeen submitted, “We’re excited to announce the kick-off date. It’s always special to see top NPFL teams compete against one another or face ambitious lower-division sides capable of producing major upsets.
“Our goals remain the same. The Gold Cup provides a competitive platform for teams across Nigeria’s three-tier league structure to fine-tune their squads ahead of the new campaign. We’re confident the 2026 edition will build on the successes and deliver another memorable competition.”
