Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna will aim to extend his impressive resurgence when he battles Germany’s Patrick Franziska in the men’s singles round of 16 at the WTT Champions Macao 2025 on Friday.
Ranked 26th in the world, Aruna delivered one of his sharpest performances in recent months during Tuesday’s round of 32, dismissing China’s Huang Youzheng in straight games.

The 36-year-old dominated throughout, sealing an emphatic 11-3, 11-8, 11-8 victory to book a spot in Friday morning’s clash at the Infinity Arena.
The African number one had endured a difficult stretch on the World Table Tennis circuit, losing five of his last six matches.
However, against Huang, he showed composure and consistency on both serve and return, signaling a timely return to form.
Aruna now faces a tougher challenge against Franziska, the world number 18, who advanced with a hard-fought five-game win over sixth seed Xiang Peng.
The German staged a strong comeback after dropping the opening game, prevailing 10-12, 11-9, 11-9, 1-11, 12-10 in a dramatic decider.
The two have met only once before, with Franziska emerging victorious.
At 33, the German arrives with confidence after eliminating one of the tournament’s top contenders.
A victory for Aruna would not only mark his first career win over Franziska but also secure him a place in the quarter-finals of a Champions event for the first time since 2021 in Sweden.
He could then face fourth seed Hugo Calderano of Brazil, who eased past Korea’s An Jaehyun and next plays Germany’s Dang Qiu.
The $800,000 WTT Champions Macao has already witnessed major upsets, with third seed Tomokazu Harimoto bowing out to China’s Xue Fei, while Europe’s leading names Simon Gauzy, Anton Kallberg, and Africa’s Omar Assar all exited early.
Defending champion Lin Shidong, Wang Chuqin, and Lin Yun-Ju remain in contention, with Wang and Lin Yun-Ju already setting up a blockbuster quarter-final clash.
