Fatodu disclosed further that the programme will now hold on September 5tth and it will be staged speciually as a tribute to Dunkwu, in recognition of his huge contributions to the development of aquatic sports in Nigeria and his efforts in creating opportunities for young swimmers.

The NAqF boss also stressed the federation’s commitment to developing swimming at the grassroots, boost talent discovery, create paths for young swimmers to progress into international competitions and enhance participation in the sport by more youths.

While adding that the competition will provide emerging swimmers with valuable competitive experience, Fatodu added that dedicating this year’s event to Dunkwu gives it greater significance, as the former president was passionate about developing young Nigerian future champions.

“Dr Chamberlain Dunkwu believed strongly in the potential of our young people. This edition of Swim To The Future is, therefore, a celebration of that vision and a commitment to continuing the work he started.

“Swim To The Future is more than a swimming event. It is an investment in the future of Nigerian aquatics. We cannot talk about the future of Nigerian aquatics without remembering those who dedicated themselves to building it.

“We want to discover young talents, give them the right environment to develop and create a clear pathway for them to become tomorrow’s champions and superstars,” Fatodu submitted.

Sports247 gathered further that ‘Swim To The Future’ is open to children from age five to 14, hence a call by NAqF to parents, schools, clubs, coaches and stakeholders to support the initiative in its aim to discover and develop Nigeria’s future swimming stars.
