Eleven out of thirteen contesting for the seat of the president were cleared. One of the disqualified aspirants, Marcello Anyanwu was disqualified on the account of an invalid nomination partly cost by the inability to get the endorsement of the Imo State Football Association chairman, Amanze Uchegbulam.

Uchegbulam will be running for the presidency as his fellow state man was also seeking the position of the NFF presidency. Speaking to press men after his disqualification, Anyanwu expressed his displeasure on why the Imo State football chairman will refuse to sign his nomination form simply because they are from the same state and he is also running for the same presidency.

Anyanwu suggested that the Imo State administrator is doing all these for his selfish interest. “The truth of the matter is that I have run a very good race. When I saw the list, my name was omitted. It appeared disqualified based on an invalid nomination. I was devastated and disappointed.

“I have all it takes to contest. I have an educational background, experience, and so on. The Imo State chairman refused to sign my form. Amanze couldn’t have signed for me because he is contesting too. Remember Benedict Akwuegbu, he did the same to him.”

Marcello Anyanwu and Paul Yusuf are the only candidates out of the initial thirteen running for the presidency to be disqualified by the NFF Electoral Committee due to invalid nominations.
