Nigerian-born former two-time world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Olaseni Oluwafemi Joshua, has come under attack from his British rival, Tyson Fury, who accused the 2012 Olympic Games gold medalist of asking for more money ahead of their blockbuster bout.
Sports247 reports that the much-expected fight, which has been tentatively fixed for November 20th, has been hit with yet another obstacle, as Fury alleged that Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, is arm-twisting the sponsors with incessant financial demands.
‘The Gypsy King’ was speaking with reference to complaints by Joshua’s camp about moves by the fight’s major investor from Saudi Arabia to get the venue shifted from London to Madison Square Garden in New York, USA, which Hearn has spoken out against.
However, rather than accept their argument that a fight between two British boxers is best suited for a venue in England, Fury took to social media to slam Joshua and Hearn, who he accused of ‘cheap blackmail’ in their effort to get more money, while using the issue of venue as leverage.
A report by UK’s Dail Mail noted that ‘The Gypsy King’ accused Hearn of ‘wanting more money’ from Saudi boxing entrepreneur Turki Alalshikh, which he warned could push the multiple-ventures magnate away from his stakes in the prospective epic fight.
Fury stated in a post on Instagram: “Quick update: Doesn’t look like they’re going to sign the fight, doesn’t look like it’s going to happen. All because Eddie Hearn and that guy want more money.
“They’ve already had that much money off Turki in the last few years, Eddie and AJ. They’ve had boxing deals, darts deals, snooker deals, they’ve had everything.
“Yet they’ve had the audacity and cheek of flea-bitten rats to ask for more money from Turki, who’s given you everything combined in the last couple of years. You’re disgusting. It is what it is, same old cliché a decade later, keep running you, little cowards.”
Sports247 reports further that Fury’s furious rant comes a few days after boxing legend Johnny Nelson called Joshua ‘dangerous, reckless and stupid’ for sharing golf buggy stunts online eight months after surviving a car crash that killed two of his closest friends near Sagamu.
