Sokoto United Team Manager Aliyu Ibrahim has admitted that Ahlan Cup Pre Season Tourney remains a competition that gives joy to supporters in Nigeria.

The Group C game between Sokoto United and Kwara United ended 1-1 at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Playmaker Umar Shettimah struck a brilliant free-kick to cancel out Dede Moughara’s spot kick for Kwara United.

“Our mission is to test our new players and see what they can offer ahead of the 2019/2020 Nigeria National League season,” Aliyu Ibrahim

“Ahlan Cup remains a tournament that gives happiness and joy to football lovers in Nigeria.

Aliyu Ibrahim described Umar Shettimah’s second half free-kick as ‘delicious’.

The curled effort proved decisive at the Sani Abacha Stadium, but Aliyu Ibrahim acknowledge it had been a difficult game against the Harmony Boys.

“We didn’t start well and were not up to the standard we have previously shown. In the first half they controlled the play, they did created two or three clear-cut chances and scored.

“The second half was more even, back and forth, and they could have scored on the counter-attack. However, Shettimah’s free-kick was delicious.

“He clearly is very strong and when we got the free-kick I saw him go towards the ball and take it. It was his hunger for goals that led to the free-kick.

“Shettimah has trained hard to improve that facet of his game and we saw the consequences,” added Aliyu Ibrahim.
