Akaraiwe calls for level playing ground in national team selection

D’Tigress forward, Nkem Akaraiwe has argued that selection of players for the national team should be based on quality and form rather than whether a player is home or foreign based.

Akaraiwe, who was one of only two Nigeria based players selected for the recently concluded FIBA Women’s World Cup, told Sports247.ng that national team snubs doesn’t make anybody less a player.

According to Akaraiwe, no matter where they’re based, players should be afforded the chance to prove their quality as long as they’re good enough to play.

“National team selection should be based on quality and form rather than where the players are based. This will give hope to everyone as it will make the situation a level playing ground. It will make players have hope and play their hearts out during national team duties,” Akaraiwe began in an interview with Sports247.ng.

“Basketball is a quality game with abundant talents. Players have different qualities that they can offer. Being a national team snub doesn’t make one a bad player.”
