President of World Athletics, Sebastian Coe, has expressed his excitement at being part of the African Athletics Championships in Accra while encouraging African nations to bid for more major international athletics events.
Speaking during the championships in Accra, Coe praised Africa’s growing role in global athletics and urged countries across the continent to continue investing in world-class competitions.
“Africa must host more major events,” he said.
According to the World Athletics president, hosting elite competitions plays a major role in developing the sport locally and inspiring future generations of athletes.
“It helps the sport grow,” he implied.
Coe also emphasized the importance of ensuring strong African representation among both athletes and technical officials at major global championships.
“Representation matters,” he noted.
The former Olympic champion praised the organization and impact of recent athletics events hosted in Africa, including the World Relays in Gaborone.
“Africa has shown its capability,” he added.
For Coe, increasing the continent’s involvement in global athletics events is important for the future growth and diversity of the sport.
“We want Africa to keep progressing,” he stressed.
He also encouraged governments and sports administrators across the continent to remain ambitious with infrastructure and event hosting plans.
“You must continue believing,” he said.
Africa has continued producing some of the world’s best athletes, and there is increasing push for the continent to host even more elite competitions.
For Coe, the message is clear.
Bid boldly.
Invest in athletics.
And strengthen African representation.
Because global sports grow stronger when every region has a bigger voice and greater opportunities.
