With just three days to the 2026 Abeokuta 10KM Race, registered runners have commenced collection of their official race kits ahead of the much-anticipated road-running event scheduled for Saturday, October 3, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Sports247 reports that the kit collection exercise began on Wednesday, September 30, at the parking lot of the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Kuto, Abeokuta, with runners turning up to receive their race bibs and other materials provided by the organisers.
The collection exercise is being coordinated by Nilayo Sports Management Limited (NSML), organisers of the Abeokuta 10KM Race, as preparations continue for the fifth edition of the event.
According to the organisers, runners who are yet to collect their kits will have another opportunity to do so on Thursday and Friday, October 1 and 2, with the collection centre open from 9:00am to 5:00pm daily.
More than 3,000 runners have already registered for this year’s race, underlining the growing popularity of the Abeokuta road-running event and its appeal to athletes, sports enthusiasts, administrators and residents.
The 10-kilometre race is scheduled to begin at 7:00am on Saturday from Macjob Grammar School, Onikolobo, with participants expected to make their way through designated routes before finishing at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Kuto.
The 2026 edition has also been designed with a specific focus on creating a platform for indigenous Nigerian athletes. Only Nigerian runners are eligible to participate in this year’s competition, giving local athletes an opportunity to compete on home soil while showcasing their abilities.
Beyond the sporting contest, the Abeokuta 10KM Race is expected to serve as a platform for promoting the cultural and historical identity of Ogun State’s capital.
The influx of athletes, officials, supporters and visitors is also expected to create opportunities for small-scale businesses and residents who can benefit from increased economic activity surrounding the event.
As race day approaches, attention will now turn to the final preparations, with participants expected to complete their kit collection before Friday’s deadline and make necessary arrangements ahead of Saturday morning’s start.
The Abeokuta 10KM Race has steadily become an important fixture on the local athletics calendar, combining competitive road running with community participation and the promotion of Abeokuta as a destination for sporting and cultural activities.
With thousands of runners expected on the streets of the Ogun State capital, all roads will lead to Abeokuta on Saturday as the fifth edition of the race gets underway.
