AAFCON 2024: Special Eagles Focus On Semi Final With Morocco, Keeper Expects Tough Clash

Nigeria’s team to the ongoing Amputee Football Cup of Nations (AAFCON 2024) in Egypt, the Special Eagles have turned their focus on a semi-final clash with Morocco.

This comes after the Nigerian squad spanked Liberia 2-1 in a tough quarter-final battle on Thursday, while Morocco dumped the host nation, Egypt 4-2.

It, therefore, promises to be a titanic battle for a ticket to the final, and Nigeria’s goalkeeper, Ogidan Olayemi admitted that the Eagles have to prepare pretty well for the encounter.

He noted that the Special Eagles are the team everyone wants to beat, especially as they opened their campaign with a mammoth 11-0 mauling of Burundi.

Olayemi acceded that he was unable to keep a clean slate in Nigeria’s quarter-final match because the Liberians went all out for victory, which he said buttressed the fact that other teams want to play spoiler against the Special Eagles.

However, the ebullient lad assured all Nigerians that the Special Eagles will prepare very well and put in the best of their efforts, in order to overcome Morocco who, incidentally, will host the Amputee Football World Cup in 2026.

Olayemi retorted: “I remain focused and determined. It’s all about a team game, and we are so glad that we were able to conquer Liberia in our game today.

“Our next focus is on the next game against Morocco. They are a very tough side, but we too are committed to this competition, and everyone is prepared for tough games.

“Our game against Liberia showed that every team here is really focusing on Nigeria. So, we too will get ready.”

He concluded with an assurance that the Special Eagles are focusing fully on how to beat Morocco in the semi-final and promised that they will not let expectations of playing in the final distract them.

“We will focus on this match before thinking of the final, because we always want to take each game at a time. Morocco is our next focus, and we will surely put in our very best,” Olayemi concluded.
