Edo State special sports head coach, Patience Igbiti has declared that her contingent will ruffle many feathers at the forthcoming National Sports Festival and come out on top at the end of healthy hostilities.
The ace Olympian said she has a target of seeing Edol State do well at Abuja 2018, and sports247.ng learnt she is charging up all the state’s athletes to rise up to the occasion.
Consequently, Egbiti is expecting heroics from all 18 para-powerlifters the state will present at the festival, and expressed confidence that most of them will win medals.
She enthused that her athletes will do well to qualify to represent Nigeria at the 2019 International Powerlifitng Championships in Lagos.
Egbiti, who is also assistant coach of Nigeria para-powerlifting team, said the state’s athletes will abstain from using performance enhancing drugs.
She further declared that the state government has motivated the lifters promising not to let the state governor down.
Egbiti added: “Edo state is presenting 18 out of the 20 weight categories at next month’s National Sports Festival.
“The target is to win medals for the state. We have African champions, Commonwealth and Olympic champions in the squad.
“The state government hosted me and some of the powerlifters who represented Nigeria at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
“I know if we win medals at the sports festival, the governor will reward us accordingly because he has always shown interest in sports.”
