Okocha: Nigeria’s Continental Clubs Need Assistance

Ex-international, Emmanuel Okocha has declared that Nigerian clubs on continental assignments need both technical and structural assistance for them to succeed on the African terrain.

Speaking against the backdrop of Nigeria being restricted to one club for each of the continental competitions this year, Okocha told sports247.ng that it is due to recent poor results from the country’s representatives.

He advocated a situation whereby the country rallies round continental campaigners with technical support to their coaches and administrative assistance to the club managements.

Okocha stressed: “Coaches in charge of our various NPFL teams need assistance on how to be successful in the continent.

“One thing is to have the knowledge; the other is to be able to impact it appropriately to yield results.

“That is why I am worried about how our teams competing in African club matches.

“Most of them that compete in CAF competitions mostly rely on home games to get results, while their north African opponents are different.”
