The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has warned members of the U17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, against match-fixing and other integrity violations ahead of the 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.
The warning followed a mandatory integrity briefing organised by the NFF Integrity Unit on Wednesday for players and officials selected for the tournament.
According to the Federation, the session was designed to help the team recognise attempts to manipulate matches, understand the risks involved and know how to respond to suspicious approaches.
The briefing covered methods used by match-fixers to approach players, restrictions on football betting, the protection of confidential team information and the reporting channels available to those who encounter suspected manipulation attempts.
Players and officials were also informed about the potential consequences of involvement in match-fixing, as the NFF reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy towards corruption that threatens the integrity of football.
The Federation said confidential reporting channels are available around the clock, encouraging team members to report suspicious approaches rather than engage with individuals seeking to influence match outcomes.
The exercise forms part of FIFA’s wider integrity framework for the competition, which includes betting-market monitoring, intelligence sharing with law enforcement agencies and continued integrity support throughout the tournament.
The Flamingos are preparing to represent Nigeria at the global competition in Morocco, where maintaining discipline and professionalism will be important both on and off the pitch.
With match manipulation remaining a concern in football, the NFF’s briefing aims to ensure that players and officials understand their responsibilities and the importance of protecting the credibility of the game.
The Federation’s message is clear: anyone representing Nigeria must reject attempts to compromise the integrity of the competition and report suspicious activity through the appropriate channels.
