Flamingos Must Beware Of Poland’s Search For Redemption At FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup

Nigeria’s female cadet national team, Flamingos have received a strong warning about the hunger for revival that Poland will bring against them in their opening match at the FIFA Women’s U17 World Cup on Saturday, Sports247 reports.

Both sides are set to lock horns at the start of action in Group B, with Korea DPR and Puerto Rico also in the pool, ahead of which the Flamingos have been reminded that Poland are back into the championship with a mission to amend for their inability to reach the last edition.

The inference now is that the Poles will come out with force and fury against the Flamingos on Saturday, while also noting that their best effort in the competition’s history has been a quarter-finals’ spot, which they will be eager to surpass at Maroc 2026.

However, a preview by the communications department of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) noted that the Flamingos have a stronger pedigree in this competition than Poland holds, with the squad from Abuja having picked a bronze medal not too long ago and they have never missed any edition of the Female Cadet Mundial.

The preview added in part, “Nigeria’s U17 girls, Flamingos will begin their 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup campaign against Poland at Pitch 4 of the Mohammed VI Football Complex on Saturday.

“Nigeria will be hoping to go further than they did in the previous edition, where they were eliminated in the Round of 16 following a 4-0 defeat to Italy. Poland, meanwhile, return to the tournament after missing the 2025 edition.

“Their last appearance was in 2024 in the Dominican Republic, where they reached the quarter-finals before losing to eventual champions Korea DPR. This will be the first meeting between Nigeria and Poland at this level.

“The Flamingos (will be) looking to start their campaign with a win in Group B. A strong start could be key as the 2022 bronze-medallists aim to make a deeper run in the competition.”

Sports247 adds that victory for Nigeria on Saturday will be a cushion heading into their next two group games, especially against the cup holders from Korea, who are the best team at this level of world football on current form.
