The Office of the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Grassroots Sports Development has confirmed the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) as technical partner for the forthcoming National Grassroots Sports Summit scheduled for November 18 and 19, 2026, in Abuja.
The two-day summit, which will take place at the Banquet Hall of the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, is expected to bring together major stakeholders from Nigeria and abroad to discuss strategies for sustainable grassroots sports development.
President Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant on Grassroots Sports Development, Prince Adeyinka Adeboye, disclosed that his office had held several meetings with the NESG ahead of the event, expressing satisfaction with the organisation’s involvement.
“As we speak, I can confirm to you that the NESG are our technical partners and we are more than impressed with what they are contributing to this all-important event,” Adeboye stated.
The presidential aide explained that the summit, which has received President Tinubu’s approval, is designed to produce a new framework for strengthening grassroots sports across the country.
“We are looking forward to a summit that would draw a new road map for sports in this country and getting the NESG to partner with us clearly shows that we are on course,” he added.
The summit, themed “Creating a New Pathway for Sustainable Grassroots Sports Development,” comes amid growing calls for structural reforms aimed at improving Nigeria’s sporting fortunes.
Discussions are expected to focus on the need for stronger development structures, improved sporting facilities, more competitive grassroots programmes and sustainable pathways for identifying and nurturing young talent.
The involvement of the NESG as technical partner is intended to bring economic and policy perspectives into conversations about the long-term development of Nigerian sports.
With stakeholders expected from within and outside the country, the summit will provide a platform for examining existing challenges and proposing practical solutions to strengthen the grassroots sports ecosystem.
For Adeboye, securing the NESG partnership represents an important step towards delivering a summit capable of shaping a sustainable future for grassroots sports development in Nigeria.
