Super Falcons forward Folashade Ijamilusi has expressed gratitude to the coaching staff for giving her an opportunity to contribute to Nigeria’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Comoros in the return leg of their Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games qualifier.
Ijamilusi, who came into the game following an injury to captain Rasheedat Ajibade, made her opportunity count by providing an assist as Nigeria completed a commanding 7-0 aggregate victory to advance to the next qualifying round.
The forward described her involvement as a special moment, thanking the technical crew for the confidence shown in her.
“I thank God for the opportunity, and also to the coaches, the officials, for giving me the opportunity,” Ijamilusi said.
The youngster explained that she had followed the match closely from the sidelines before being introduced, determined to make a positive contribution when her chance arrived.
“When I was introduced, I took the chance that I can also perform well,” she stated.
Ijamilusi expressed particular satisfaction with her assist, describing it as an important personal achievement and a contribution she had been eager to make for the national team.
“The assist was a good thing for me because this is something I really wanted for the team and for myself,” she explained.
Her contribution added to an impressive attacking display from the Super Falcons, who scored five unanswered goals after securing a 2-0 advantage in the opening fixture.
The result ensured Nigeria progressed comfortably in their pursuit of one of Africa’s two qualification tickets for the 2028 Olympic Games.
For Ijamilusi, the experience represents an opportunity to build confidence and strengthen her case for more playing time as the qualifying campaign continues.
The forward also acknowledged the significance of being trusted to contribute in a competitive international fixture.
“But I’m grateful to God,” she added.
Having made an impact with an assist, Ijamilusi will be hoping her performance earns her further opportunities to help the Super Falcons progress towards Los Angeles 2028.
