Sports247 gathered that officials for the forthcoming festival, tagged Coal City 2026, believe the inclusion of NIN certificates in the eligibility criteria would check poaching, false identity, impersonation and any other form of irregularity during registrations.

Consequently, any athlete hoping to compete at the 23rd National Sports Festival in the Enugu State capital will have to provide authentic NIN information and documentation as part of the accreditation process.

An official statement added, “The measure, introduced to ensure a smooth and credible conduct of the Games in Enugu, is aimed at verifying the identity and authenticity of all athletes taking part in the festival.

“The NIN requirement is expected to help prevent impersonation, multiple registrations and the use of false personal information, thereby ensuring that only duly registered athletes participate in the Games.

“Any invalid or incorrect NIN will be rejected by the registration portal, and an athlete’s registration will not be successfully processed until a valid NIN is provided.

“Accreditation Desk Officers have been directed to ensure that the NIN details of athletes are correctly entered during the registration process.”

Sports247 reports further that this year’s festival will start on November 25th, with the Games Village to be officially declared open, while the rush for medals will hold from November 27th to December 15th.
