Felix Semekete, General Manager at Galetech East Africa, disclosed details of the initiative during the Year of Return Africa (YORA) Summit & Expo 2026 at Broadwalk Mall, Westlands, Nairobi, on Wednesday.

Semekete explained that the proposed project would incorporate approximately 250 megawatts of solar generation to support synthetic fuel production using hydrogen and captured carbon dioxide.

He described synthetic fuels as man-made alternatives produced through advanced technologies that combine renewable electricity, hydrogen and carbon dioxide.

According to him, the project would explore agricultural waste, including coconut husks, cashew nut shells and macadamia shells, as potential sources of biogenic carbon dioxide.

Beyond energy production, Semekete emphasised the importance of ensuring that surrounding communities benefit directly from the investment.

“We are also going to give them some shares in the company,” he said, outlining a proposed arrangement involving land leases and community ownership participation.

He explained that agricultural waste collection centres would also be established to create income opportunities for local farmers while promoting fair pricing.

Semekete identified Kenya’s renewable energy resources, available land and investment environment as major attractions for the proposed development.

He further highlighted Galetech’s involvement in renewable energy project development, equipment maintenance and technical training, stressing the importance of building local expertise.

The presentation reinforced YORA Summit 2026’s focus on connecting investment, innovation and sustainable development across Africa.

If successfully financed and implemented, the proposed Kilifi project could strengthen Kenya’s position in emerging green fuel markets while creating employment and business opportunities for coastal communities.
