Matchday Three of the EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League has already started with a statement — and Sunday now has the responsibility of answering it.
Doma United did not wait for anybody.
The Savannah Tigers defeated nine-time Nigerian champions Enyimba 2-0 at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe on Saturday, extending their remarkable start to three victories from three matches and strengthening their position at the top of the early standings.
Sadiq Rilwan opened the scoring shortly after the half-hour mark, continuing his extraordinary individual start with his third goal in three EuroMatch NPFL appearances, before Yusuf Fantami struck in the second half to put the contest beyond Enyimba.
Three matches. Nine points.
And Doma have still not conceded.
What began as an impressive return to the top flight is rapidly becoming one of the first major stories of the 2026/27 EuroMatch NPFL season.
But Doma’s Saturday statement is only the opening act.
Six more fixtures arrive on Sunday, while three postponed encounters complete the wider Matchday Three programme — meaning the league still has plenty of entertainment waiting to unfold.
Doma United 2-0 Enyimba — the leaders are no longer whispering
Doma entered Saturday with victories over Sporting Lagos and Inter Lagos. Enyimba represented a different examination altogether: pedigree, history and nine league championships standing opposite the early-season leaders.
Doma passed the examination.
Rilwan’s opener made him one of the unmistakable early personalities of the campaign. Fantami then supplied the insurance as coach Deji Ayeni’s men collected another three points.
For goalkeeper Ibrahim Pius and the players protecting him, another clean sheet means Doma have now gone through three complete league matches without allowing an opponent to score.
That gives the EuroMatch NPFL an irresistible early storyline: the promoted club everybody expected to be fighting for survival is currently forcing everybody else to chase them.
And while three matches will never decide a 38-game championship, nine points from nine certainly gets people’s attention.
Inter Lagos vs Sporting Lagos — Lagos has a new derby
Then comes Sunday’s box-office attraction.
Inter Lagos against Sporting Lagos.
The Mobolaji Johnson Arena will host the first-ever top-flight meeting between the two clubs, according to the official NPFL preview.
Neither side has enjoyed the start it wanted.
Inter Lagos have lost their opening two matches, while Sporting Lagos were beaten 2-0 by Doma United in their opening league fixture.
But that almost makes Sunday’s encounter more fascinating.
Someone can become the hero of the first EuroMatch NPFL meeting between these clubs. A goalkeeper can produce the save people remember. A striker can score the goal Lagos talks about on Monday morning.
Form can be forgotten for an afternoon.
Derby history cannot.
The match kicks off at 4pm at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, and is scheduled for live coverage through the MBI YouTube channel, Afro Soccer and FRCN.
This is more than another fixture.
It is the beginning of a rivalry.
Barau FC vs Ranchers Bees — Atule meets the league’s hat-trick attraction
There could be serious entertainment at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.
Barau FC remain unbeaten after their opening victory over Nasarawa United and goalless draw against Kun Khalifat.
That gives Joseph Atule another opportunity to continue the personal scoring mission he began on Matchday One.
But Ranchers Bees arrive with a player whose name suddenly demands attention.
Mohammed Rabiu Zulkifilu announced himself by producing the first hat-trick of the new campaign against Abia Warriors.
Now comes the fun part.
Was that the beginning of something?
Barau will want to stop him. Ranchers will want to unleash him again.
There is another intriguing storyline: Ranchers Bees coach Usman Abd’Allah returns to familiar surroundings at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
Atule at one end. Zulkifilu at the other.
The EuroMatch NPFL has given Kano another afternoon with personalities worth watching.
Bendel Insurance vs Kun Khalifat — Akuchie’s wall faces another examination
Kun Khalifat have discovered an unusual formula for remaining unbeaten.
They have not scored.
They have not conceded either.
Two matches have produced two goalless draws, with goalkeeper Akuchie Obinna beginning his first NPFL campaign with consecutive clean sheets.
Now comes Benin.
Kun Khalifat visit Bendel Insurance at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium at 4pm, with the game scheduled for live coverage on the NPFL YouTube channel.
For Akuchie, the challenge is beautifully simple:
Can he make it three EuroMatch NPFL appearances without conceding?
For Insurance, the mission is the opposite — become the first club to break through Kun Khalifat’s wall.
There is also a coaching landmark on the horizon. The official NPFL preview says Kennedy Boboye is expected to take charge of his 25th match as Bendel Insurance head coach, having recorded 10 wins, 10 draws and four defeats in his previous 24.
Abia Warriors vs Ikorodu City — somebody needs a breakthrough
Abia Warriors have another opportunity to change the direction of their season when Ikorodu City arrive.
The Warriors entered Matchday Three with just one point from two matches and, more concerningly, without a goal.
Ikorodu City have played only once but made that appearance count, defeating Ranchers Bees 3-1.
The official league preview also provides an interesting historical warning for the Lagos side: Ikorodu City have lost on both of their previous trips to Abia.
Something therefore has to move.
Abia need goals.
Ikorodu want another statement.
And another player has the opportunity to become Sunday’s headline.
The official match appointment lists the fixture for 4pm.
Niger Tornadoes vs Plateau United — the search for momentum
One win. One defeat.
That is the identical record Niger Tornadoes and Plateau United bring into their meeting at the Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna.
Tornadoes stunned Enyimba 2-1 on Matchday One before becoming part of one of the season’s most entertaining matches so far — the 3-2 defeat against Kano Pillars in which centre-back Fabian Nworie remarkably scored twice.
Plateau United responded to their opening defeat against Rivers United by beating Kwara United 1-0.
Now somebody has an opportunity to put consecutive disappointment behind them and begin building momentum.
History slightly favours the hosts: the official league preview notes that Plateau have managed only one victory in their recent trips to face Tornadoes.
Kick-off in Minna is 4pm.
Kwara United vs Katsina United — Ilorin waits for its first celebration
Kwara United are still searching for their first victory after taking one point from their opening two games.
Katsina United, meanwhile, have played just once — and nearly produced one of Matchday One’s biggest results before Rangers rescued a late 1-1 draw.
The history between Sunday’s opponents provides another layer. Kwara have won three of their last five meetings with Katsina, including doing the double over them last season.
That makes Sunday’s 4pm encounter at the Kwara State Sports Stadium in Ilorin another fixture where home expectation meets an opponent carrying confidence from its last away performance.
And Matchday Three isn’t finished — three postponed battles are still coming
This is important when telling the complete Matchday Three story.
Three fixtures originally scheduled alongside Sunday’s programme were postponed, largely reshaping the weekend because of continental commitments.
Rivers United vs Warri Wolves has been moved to Wednesday, September 16 at 4pm, with the official fixture list placing the match at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.
Rangers International vs Nasarawa United follows on Thursday, September 17 at 4pm at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena.
Then comes Shooting Stars vs Kano Pillars, now listed for Wednesday, October 7 at 4pm at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.
That last fixture will be particularly interesting when it finally arrives.
Kano Pillars defender Fabian Nworie enters his next league appearance with considerably more attention after scoring twice from centre-back against Niger Tornadoes.
And Nworie has already pointed to the influence of Ahmed Musa, describing the Nigerian international as a major role model whose motivation is helping the Pillars players.
That is another side of the league worth promoting.
Not merely scores.

Fabian Nworie has shown that a centre-back can become a two-goal match-winner.
