18-Year-Old Nigerian Midfielder Augustine Chima Joins Apollon Limassol

Nigerian teenage midfielder Udochukwu Augustine Chima has completed a move from Coal City United to Cypriot top-flight side Apollon Limassol, marking another significant step in his young career.

Apollon officially announced the agreement with Coal City United, confirming that the Nigerian defensive midfielder has signed a contract running until May 2028, with the club holding an option to extend the deal until May 2030.

Born on March 3, 2008, Chima is only 18 years old and becomes one of the younger players in Apollon’s squad. UEFA lists him among the club’s midfielders for the Cypriot First Division.

The move takes the promising Nigerian from the domestic Nigerian football scene to one of Cyprus’ established clubs, giving him an opportunity to continue his development in European football.

Apollon, based in Limassol, currently compete in the Cypriot First Division and are among the country’s most successful clubs, having won the league title four times, most recently in 2022. The club have also won nine Cypriot Cups and four Super Cups.

Chima’s arrival adds youthful energy to an Apollon midfield that already includes experienced players such as Gustavo Assunção and Gaëtan Weissbeck.

The youngster joins Apollon at an important stage of the club’s 2026/27 campaign. The Cypriot side opened their league season with a 2–2 draw against Aris before recording their first victory with a 3–1 win over Anorthosis.

For Chima, the transfer represents a major opportunity to test himself in European football and develop his game at a club competing at the highest level in Cyprus.

With a long-term contract and an option that could keep him at Apollon until 2030, the club have also signalled their belief in the young Nigerian’s potential.

From Coal City United to Apollon Limassol — Augustine Chima’s European chapter has officially begun.
