The Nigeria Football Coaches Association (NFCA), Ado-Odo/Ota Local Council, Ogun State, has unveiled the Prestige League, an Under-15 grassroots football competition designed to give young players a structured platform to showcase their talents, gain competitive experience, and develop important values on and off the pitch.
Speaking with Sports247, NFCA Ado-Odo/Ota Secretary Jonathan Opara said the initiative was built around the belief that young footballers should have access to opportunities that can help them realise their potential.
“Every young footballer deserves an opportunity to be seen, developed and properly guided,” Opara said.
The Prestige League is expected to bring together promising Under-15 football teams and academies within and around the Ado-Odo/Ota football community, creating a competitive environment where emerging talents can test themselves against their peers.
Opara explained that the competition will go beyond the pursuit of trophies, with the organisers placing emphasis on talent identification, player development and character building.
“Beyond winning trophies, the league will promote talent identification and development, regular competitive football for young players, discipline and respect for coaches, officials and opponents, and a stronger grassroots football structure,” he said.
According to Opara, regular competitive football is essential to the development of young players, giving them the opportunity to gain match experience while allowing coaches and other football stakeholders to monitor their progress.
He also expressed confidence in the abundance of football talent within the Ado-Odo/Ota area, noting that the community has the potential to produce players who can progress to higher levels of the game.
“Ado-Odo/Ota has the record of producing future talents and we want to catch them in abundance,” he added.
The NFCA official, however, stressed that achieving the league’s long-term objectives would require support from individuals, corporate organisations and other stakeholders.
He called for sponsorship to help the organisers establish a stronger and more professional competition capable of providing sustainable opportunities for young footballers.
“Sponsorships are welcome. That will help build a stronger and standard league structure,” Opara stated.
With the Prestige League now set to provide a dedicated platform for Under-15 players, the NFCA Ado-Odo/Ota hopes to strengthen grassroots football development while creating a pathway for talented youngsters to be identified and properly nurtured.
For the organisers, the ultimate objective is not simply to crown champions, but to discover, develop and guide the next generation of football talents from Ado-Odo/Ota, Ogun State and beyond.
