Seamoriow Football Academy of Ikotun striker, Samuel Achibong (aka Alvarez) has pushed aside any suggestion of misgivings on his part for not getting the most valuable player and highest goal scorer awards at a championship organised by the owner of his team.
Sports247 reports that this is in contrast with the view of many fans at the arena in the Islamic area of Ikotun, Lagos, where Achibong struck a splendid hat-trick in the final of the 5th Seamoriow U15 League Championship.
The three goals drew him level with Quyum Olarewaju of Super Accurate Football Academy of Ikotun, who got the award because he played fewer matches, having been knocked out in the quarterfinals by Pumah FA of Akowonjo.
While Achibong could have won the MVP award with his hat trick in the final, the competition’s technical committee preferred his team’s goalkeeper, Monday Austin Peter, who had earlier won two man of the match awards in their previous fixtures.
Nonetheless, the dark-skinned lanky lad from Uyo will not allow the situation to becloud his vision, as he told Sports247 that he is already thinking of how to achieve bigger things for the academy and himself in the future.
Achibong retorted, “All I’m thinking about is to keep training hard and preparing for greater opportunities ahead.
“Although many people call me Alvarez, I actually prefer playing like Victor Osimhen, and I want to play for the Super Eagles when I get older.”
