Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the upcoming 1st National Intermdediate Games and Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Sam Egube has promised that all athletes who compete at the multi-sports gathering will benefit from many tangible incentives.
Sports247 reports that Egube added that the incentives will come in the form of various opportunities for growth during and after the Games, billed for Lagos from October 1st to 15th, with about 15,000 athletes from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) taking part.

Egube further noted that the Games will serve as a sustainable platform for talent identification, monitoring and development, while also strengthening the link between school sports, grassroots participation and elite competition, as well as building a sustainable grassroots sports system.
While also noting the roles being played by Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) director-general, Lekan Fatodu as well as the Commissioner for Youth & Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, who are both co-chairmen of the LOC, Egube added that Eko 2026 will produce futurre elite athletes for Nigeria.
He further disclosed that Lagos State government’s investment in facilities is part of a strategy to strengthen sports development, as the current administration is prioritising a comprehensive upgrade of structures spread across Surulere, Ifako, Bariga, Ikorodu, Epe, Agege and Badagry.
Egube expatiated, “Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu noted that Eko 2026 will give young athletes the chance to showcase and refine their talents while establishing a system capable of retaining promising athletes in Nigeria.
“The initiative complements Lagos State Government’s ongoing investment in sporting infrastructure, particularly at the school and grassroots levels, by creating better environments for young athletes to develop their abilities.
“This is a commitment to human development in our sporting system. Athletes will benefit from tangible incentives, opportunities for support and training, while ensuring that talents are nurtured within school programmes.”
