Reigning Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) champions Edo Queens FC produced a stunning attacking display on Wednesday, thrashing USFA of Burkina Faso 5-1 in the semi-final of the CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU-B qualifying tournament in Ouagadougou.
The 2024 WAFU-B champions wasted little time asserting their authority at the Stade 4 Août, with Atume Doosuur opening the scoring in the 17th minute.

Edo Queens continued to dominate proceedings and struck twice in quick succession just before half-time. In-form forward Chioma Moses found the net in the 43rd minute before Valentina Uroko added another two minutes later to give the Nigerian side a commanding 3-0 lead at the break.
The Benin-based champions returned from the interval with the same attacking intent, and Doshima Tarnum extended their advantage just a minute into the second half, scoring directly from a corner kick to leave the Burkinabe side facing an uphill task.
Edo Queens continued to press forward and effectively put the contest beyond USFA’s reach when Aminat Folorunsho scored in the 62nd minute to make it 5-0.
The hosts eventually found a consolation goal in the 91st minute, but it did little to change the outcome as Edo Queens completed an emphatic 5-1 victory.
The win sends Edo Queens into the WAFU-B final, putting them one step away from another regional title and qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League proper.
The Nigerian champions had earned their place in the semi-finals after an impressive start to the competition, defeating AS Garde Nationale of Niger Republic 7-0 before recording a 3-1 victory over ASEC Mimosas in their first two Group B matches.
They suffered their only setback in the group stage on Sunday when Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC defeated them 2-1 in their final Group B encounter.
Edo Queens could now have the opportunity for immediate revenge, with Ampem Darkoa Ladies likely to be their opponents in the final if the Ghanaian side wins its own semi-final.
With five goals against USFA, Edo Queens have once again underlined their attacking strength and their ambition to go all the way in Burkina Faso.
