Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) champions Edo Queens have arrived in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, ahead of the 2026 West African Football Union Zone B (WAFU-B) CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers.
Sports247 reports that the 2024 WAFU-B champions arrived in the Burkina Faso capital on Saturday evening, brimming with confidence as they prepare to battle some of the region’s top women’s clubs for a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League.
The Nigerian champions touched down in Ouagadougou at about 6 pm aboard Air Côte d’Ivoire before proceeding to their hotel, Splendid, where they settled ahead of the competition.
Edo Queens wasted little time in beginning preparations, holding their first training session from 8am to 9am on Saturday under the supervision of interim head coach Kennedy Boboye.
Boboye, who is also the head coach of Nigeria Premier Football League side Bendel Insurance, has been handed the responsibility of guiding Edo Queens through the qualifiers following the absence of Moses Aduku.
Aduku, who had been serving as the club’s interim head coach, is currently with the Nigeria U-20 women’s national team as the squad prepares for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
Edo Queens have been drawn in Group B alongside ASEC Mimosas of Côte d’Ivoire, Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC of Ghana and AS Garde Nationale of Niger.
Group A comprises hosts USFAS of Burkina Faso, Dynamique FC of Benin and ASOK Da-Kara Féminines of Togo.
The Nigerian champions will begin their campaign on Monday, August 24, when they face AS Garde Nationale of Niger at Stade 4 Août. The encounter is scheduled to kick off at 6pm.
As reigning NWFL champions and former WAFU-B winners, Edo Queens will be expected to draw on their continental experience as they pursue another opportunity to represent West Africa on the biggest stage.
The qualifiers, which are scheduled to commence on August 23, will bring together leading clubs from across the WAFU-B region, with the ultimate prize being qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League proper in South Africa later this year.
With the competition now underway, Edo Queens will be hoping to make a strong start against their Nigerien opponents and take an early step towards securing continental qualification.
The battle for West African supremacy begins in Ouagadougou, and Edo Queens are ready to fly the Nigerian flag.
