League of African Ambassadors (LAA) president, Ambassador Nwanne Ominyi has disclosed that the association is using golf as a tool to propel its mission and vision, because the sport provides an ‘informal platform to build enduring relationships for Africa’s progress.’
Sports247 reports that Ominyi cited the LAA Fundraising Golf Programme as one of the League’s flagship initiatives, which he explained is designed to combine ‘the game of gentlemen’ with numerous advantages of international diplomacy, networking, economic discourse and resource mobilisation.

Ominyi added that the first edition of Nigeria’s glamorous competition will hold at Ibom Golf & Country Club, Uyo, Akwa Ibom, from August 29th to 30th, with a view towards promoting the League’s continental vision, build more strategic partnerships and promote African unity.
He further disclosed that the League, which was inaugurated on October 14th, 2025, under auspices of the African Union Economic, Social and Cultural Council (AU-ECOSOCC), comprises serving and retired ambassadors who are all committed to advancing African unity.
The League’s members also relate cordinally in order to enhance economic cooperation and sustainable development, while seeking to harness their wealth of diplomatic experience to strengthen unity, cultural relations, socio-economic development and global influence across Africa.
Ominyi expatiated, “We complement the efforts of governments, the African Union and regional organisations through dialogue, mentorship, youth empowerment and strategic partnerships, (which golf will help us promote).
“Golf creates an informal platform where diplomats, business leaders and development partners can build enduring relationships for Africa’s progress. The initiative will subsequently be replicated in 11 African countries to strengthen diplomatic engagement and continental partnerships.”
