The coach of Nigeria’s women’s beach volleyball squad, Kayode Ajilore is heaping praise on his players for their stunning performances at the ongoing continental championship in Alexandria, Egypt, where they will play Mozambique in the semi-finals on Saturday.
Sports247 reports that Ajilore hailed his players after their shock victory over Egypt in the quarter-finals on Friday and declared that they are good enough to take Mozambique to the cleaners, as both players continue their quest to pick Africa’s sole ticket for the 2028 Olympic Games.

Ajilore added that he is very proud of the players, who he rated high as world beaters and affirmed that they can hold their own anywhere, as the duo of Esther Mbah and Pamela Bawa defeated Egypt’s Dina/Yakki 2-1 (21-17, 15-21, 15-11) in a thrilling quarter-finals match.
As the African Beach Volleyball Championship gets hotter this weekend, Nigeria takes on highly-formidable Mozambique, Ajilore praised his players for starting well in the first set of Friday’s quarter-final, as they led 21-17 before the Egyptians bounced back.
Though the Egyptians won the second set 21-15, Nigeria’s duo was not relenting, as the Zone 3 champions regained their composure in the decisive third set and edged the North Africans 15-11 to book their place in the semi-finals, ahead of which Ajilore predicted another win for Mbah and Bawa.
While describing their victory over Egypt as an impressive display, Ajilore declared that the performance so far has been commendable and added: “The girls have proved why they are elite athletes.
“They have improved over the years. The win against Egypt in the Round of 16 set the ball rolling for the players. We are not going to underrate Mozambique. We’ll give our best and bring honour to our nation.”
