A highly promising basketball player based in Abesan Estate, Lagos, Busayo Agunbiade is keeping alive his passion for the ‘giants’ game,’ despite recently signing up to play in the highly productive and exciting Showtime Flag Football League (SFFL).
Sports247 gathered that Agunbiade, who hails from Arigidi in Ondo State, is among the new talents who were recently drafted by various teams in the highly popular flag football league that takes place at Showtime Arena in Lekki area of Lagos, but he insists it will not kiill his love for basketball.
His love for flag football has also soared since passing a string of trials to gain the nod at Lagos Longhorns, such that he does not mind spending so much money, energy and time travelling the long distance from Abesan to attend their games at Lekki on Victoria Island.
However, while pointing out that he remains fully committed to playing for Lagos Longhorns in the SFFL, Agunbiade told Sports247 he will always make the best use of any free time that comes his way to showcase his basketball skills, in order to keep his love for the game going.
Fortunately for him, the Flag Football League season has come to an end, which has given the graduate of Marketing from Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo enough time to dust his basketball kit and resume recreational games every evening at the open courts of Abesan Estate, near Iyana Ipaja.
“I started playing basketball before I got the link to flag football. I applied for trials and I was accepted, which made me very happy. I play as corner back in flag football and a small forward in basketball. I want to keep on playing both of them and I will not allow one to affect the other.
“I love flag football and I love basketball. I’m lucky that the season of flag football is usually short, which allows me to join games of basketball in my hood every evening. I am happy that I can still play basketball, even after joining Longhorns. I hope for a breakthrough in both of them,” Agunbiade posited.
His ambitions appear to be on track, as Lagos Longhorns are among the highly rated flag football teams in the SFFL, with heavy hype trailing them and large bands of supporters turning up to the cheer the players during their games, all of which make them a very viable route towards the limelight.
A promotional statement for the team on Instagram declares: “Introducing the Lagos Long Horns – Fear the Horns, Respect the Hustle. From the streets of Lagos to the @showtimeffl flag Arena. This ain’t just flag football. It’s a statement. It’s culture. It’s the LAGOS LONGHORNS.”
