The director-general of Nigeria’s National Sports Commission (NSC), Honorable Bukola Olopade has predicted a successful outcome for the country at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, as he stressed that all the athletes are adequately prepared and ready for their events.
Sports247 reports that Olopade added that all structures put in place by the NSC and the various federations ahead of the Games are also working, hence his confidence and assurances that Team Nigeria will garner lots of medals and stand tall after the last day of events on August 2nd.
Olopade added ahead of the opening ceremony this Thursday that a new era of sports administration and development of the sector has begun in Nigeria, which he said
was further accentuated by the contingent’s stylish arrival in Glasgow, with a renewed sense of purpose and real professionalism.
He reiterated that Team Nigeria’s build-up to the Games and their eventual arrival in style on Tuesday reflects the NSC’s commitment to repositioning sports through strategic planning, innovation, global best practices and dawn of a new culture for the sector, both domestically and internationally.
“We are deliberately changing the narrative by placing our athletes first, embracing professionalism, and building a sustainable sports ecosystem that inspires confidence and delivers results.
“We are laying the foundation for a thriving sports economy that empowers athletes and opens new opportunities. Our athletes are prepared, our structures are working, and our expectations are high.
“Team Nigeria has arrived in Glasgow in true Renewed Hope fashion. with confidence, class, and the determination to fly the nation’s flag proudly. Now, let the Games begin,” Olopade submitted with affirmation.
Sports247 gathered further that Olopade and other top shots of the NSC are confident that the comprehensive preparations they put in place for Team Nigeria ahead of the Glasgow Games will translate into between 16 to 20 gold medals for the country and further strengthen Nigeria’s sporting reputation.
With eyes equally set on the possibility of garnering the biggest haul in history, Team Nigeria will feature prominently in judo, weightlifting, para-powerlifting, athletics, 3×3 basketball, swimming and boxing at this year’s Commonwealth Games from July 23rd to August 2nd.
