Trabzonspor of Turkey striker, Paul Ebere Onuachu has proven once again that he has not forgotten his roots, as the giant attacker extended a donation of over 50 football boots plus several bags filled with jerseys and other equipment to Young Stars FC of Satellite Town, Lagos.
Sports247 gathered that the truck load of materials donated by the Super Eagles’ hitman also included sports shorts, training vests, footballs, shin guards and bibs; with a pledge that he still has memories of how he played for the club during his childhood days in the Ojo axis of Lagos.
Speaking on behalf of the highly productive club, whose founder and head coach, Osahon Emokpae recently died, the assistant gaffer, Hyginus Okoye said he is happy with the gesture by Onuachu, who is also funding the construction of a $450,000 hospital at his home town in Imo State, to ease their healthcare needs.
The donation is also another step forward by Onuachu, who was raised in Ojo-Alaba area of Lagos, as he earlier this year made life comfortable for the people of Umuota Agbaghara Nsu village in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State by providing the community with a 45KVA electricity transformer.
Onuachu told The Punch newspaper, “It was always weird going home for the Yuletide and seeing that the village had no electricity. The thought of helping my village get a transformer then came up, and God did the rest. My kinsmen no longer rely on generators or walk far to the next village to charge a phone,”
Sports247 further gathered that, in contrast with initial reports that Onuachu had not done enough to support Coach Osahon before his death, the former RKC Genk of Belgium and Southampton of England star actually spent over N5m on hospital bills for the late gaffer, who he earlier bought a car for.
The 32-year-old hitman, who joined FC Ebedie of Sagamu from Young Stars, then played for Midtjylland and Vejle of Denmark, is also funding a homecoming youth football competition featuring his boyhood club at Saint Michael School, off Iyana Iba Market, Ojo, Lagos.
