NFF’s Nomilisation Committtee Gets May 31st Deadline; With Members To Be Selected By FIFA, CAF

The much-talked-about nomination committee for Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has received a deadline of May 31, 2027, to wrap up its operations and usher in a duly elected executive committee for the country’s governing body.

Sports247 gathered that the deadline has been issued even before the committee takes shape, as egg heads at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the global body, FIFA, are yet to finalise plans for its membership.

Updated information regarding the committee, which will oversee reforms for Nigeria’s football sector, further revealed that, while CAF and FIFA will determine the chairman, anyone so appointed and other personnel in the interim board would be barred from contesting during the electoral process they are expected to supervise.

A press statement from the NFF’s communications department added: “The Bureau of the FIFA Council on Thursday approved the appointment of a Normalisation Committee to manage the affairs of the Nigeria Football Federation, pending fresh elections into the NFF Executive Committee.

“According to a letter signed by FIFA Secretary General, Mattias Grafström and addressed to Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme MON, ‘the normalisation committee shall consist of a suitable number of members, who will be appointed jointly by FIFA and CAF as soon as possible.’

“The letter also informed that ‘the period during which the normalisation committee shall perform its functions shall expire as soon as it has fulfilled all of its tasks, but by no later than 31 May 2027.’

“None of the members of the normalisation committee will be eligible for the positions to be filled during the upcoming NFF elections under any circumstances.

“In the meantime, the Secretariat of the NFF will continue with the day-to-day running of the organisation and administration of the country’s football pending the appointment of the Normalisation Committee.”

Sports247 reports further that the new twist in details about the highly anticipated nomilisation committee may cause a shift in agitations for roles in the interim panel, as many aspirants prefer a full four-year term, while suspense still lingers over when it will actually be set in motion.
