Nigerian AfroBeats singer, Damini Ebunoluywa Ogulu (aka Burna Boy) is relishing his selection to perform during Sunday’s final of this year’s FIFA World Cup, then went on to describe it as a privilege and responsibility for him.
Sports247 reports that, while also noting the opportunity that some children will also have to be part of the first ever FIFA World Cup Half Time Show, Burna Boy admitted he is proud to be part of history.

‘The African Giant’ is now eagerly looking forward to his impending appearance alongside Colombian female singer, Isabel Mebarak Ripoll (aka Shakira) during the interval of this year’s final, stressing that it is something to be proud of.
While also tagging the first of its king Half Tume Show as a moment that ‘will create opportunities for children,’ Burna Boy added that he feels honoured to represent Africa on the global spotlight, just as it also was for him during the opening ceremony.
Incidentally, he is also developing a close bond with Shakiru, and they both created a stir on social media during their rehearsals, as Burna Boy hugged her tight and lifted the energetic singer, with the scene caught in a video post that has already gone viral.
The video showed Burna Boy spinning aroubd with Shakira in an exciting hug during rehearsal ahead of the show, which will also feature Madonna and BTS, as well as Chris Martin, lead singer of the band, Coldplay, serving as coordinator.
Sports247 reports further that this marks another massive leap for Burna Boy, whose collaboration with Shakira for the still trending 2026 World Cup anthem (‘Dai Dai’) has already helped him extend his record as the most certified Nigerian artist in France, while the song, which has a blend of Spanish and English, recently got a gold certification in Paris.
The upbeat track, which Burna Boy and Shakira also performed live during this Mundial’s opening ceremony in Mexico, has enjoyed massive commercial success and climbed to the top of global streaming charts, hence great expectations ahead of their next appearance together during a 30-minute halftime show on Sunday.
Sports247 gathered further that ‘Dai Dai’ peaked at No.1 on the Billboard Global Excl USA chart, therreby becoming the first official World Cup song to top the ranking that began in 2020, with Burna Boy also enjoying a personal lift, as he gained prime spot for the first time.
Furthermore, heading into Sunday’s final, Burna Boy’s inclusion in the half time show adds diversity, with Afrobeats getting a historic role alongside USA’s pop, Latin music and K-pop, with the ‘Nigerian Giant’ also becomes the first African artiste to perform during a FIFA World Cup final.
