Ghetto Tigers FC Manager Azeez Mustapha has credited his players’ hunger, determination, and collective spirit for the club’s flawless start to the 2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Championship after recording back-to-back victories in Calabar.
Sports247 reports that Ghetto Tigers have emerged as one of the standout teams in Group D, collecting a maximum six points from their opening two matches while maintaining an impressive defensive record with two consecutive clean sheets. Their strong performances have moved the Lagos-based side within touching distance of a place in the promotion playoffs.
Speaking exclusively to Sports247, Mustapha revealed that the team’s mentality has been the driving force behind their success.
“The secret has been the will of the players to get results. They know that if they want it more than the opponent, they will get the result. And, of course, with God on our side,” he said.
The Ghetto Tigers manager also praised the balance within his squad, highlighting both the attacking unit and the defensive line for their contributions to the team’s excellent start.
“That is a pointer that the entire team is determined to get across the line. The strikers are getting the goals, and the defenders are locking the back. It is a total team performance.”
With one group fixture remaining and a place in the promotion playoffs within reach, Mustapha insists there will be no room for complacency as his players prepare for what could be their decisive encounter.
Referring to their next opponents, who have beaten Ghetto Tigers in previous meetings, the manager believes the time has come to rewrite history.
“We’ve lost two inconsequential games to them in the last two seasons. I’ll only tell the girls to get one win that will cover for those last two losses.”
Ghetto Tigers have combined tactical discipline with resilience throughout the championship, conceding no goals while finding the decisive moments in attack. Their impressive form has established them as one of the favourites to progress from Group D.
