WAFCON 2026: Ajibade, Oshoala Lead Early Arrivals as Super Falcons Open Training Camp in Casablanca

Nigeria’s preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) officially got underway on Sunday as the Super Falcons opened their training camp in Casablanca, Morocco.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade, veteran striker Asisat Oshoala, first-choice goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, midfielder Christy Ucheibe, defender Oluwatosin Demehin, Glory Ogbonna, Rofiat Imuran, Fatima Oloko, and Shukurat Oladipo were among the first players to report to camp.

Head coach Justine Madugu has invited 25 players for the tournament, with the remaining members of the squad expected to join camp before the team departs for Rabat, where Nigeria will play its group-stage matches.

The defending African champions are aiming to retain the continental crown and secure a record-extending 11th WAFCON title in Morocco.

Nigeria has been drawn in Group C alongside Malawi, Zambia, and Egypt, with the Super Falcons opening their campaign against Malawi on July 28 at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat.

The 2026 WAFCON, which runs from July 25 to August 16, will feature an expanded 16-team format for the first time.

The tournament also serves as a qualification pathway for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, with the four semi-finalists earning automatic qualification.

With expectations high, Madugu’s squad will use the Casablanca training camp to fine-tune tactics, build fitness, and strengthen team chemistry ahead of another quest for continental glory.
