Nigerian sprinter Ezekiel Asuquo has expressed excitement after helping Team Nigeria secure gold in the men’s 4x400m relay at the African Senior Athletics Championships.
Asuquo revealed that he had to step outside his comfort zone by running the opening leg of the relay, a role he admitted was unfamiliar to him.

“I stepped out of my comfort zone,” he said.
According to the Nigerian athlete, he focused mainly on following the instructions given by his coaches and delivering his best performance for the team.
“I just trusted the coaches,” he implied.
Asuquo described the experience of competing with the national team as an important learning process for his development.
“It has been a major learning curve,” he noted.
The sprinter also highlighted the value of competing regularly at elite events after previously featuring at the World Athletics Relays.
“Every competition is helping me improve,” he added.
For Asuquo, the immediate focus now is to continue developing ahead of future competitions, including the Commonwealth Games.
“I want to keep progressing,” he stressed.
The athlete also revealed his ambition to improve his personal best time from 46 seconds into the 45-second range.
“That’s my next target,” he said.
Nigeria’s relay teams have continued showing promising signs at continental level as younger athletes gradually gain more experience.
For Asuquo, the message is clear.
Growth requires courage.
Learning never stops.
And improvement comes through challenging yourself consistently.
Because athletes only discover new limits when they leave their comfort zones behind.
