Nigerian Social Media Influencer KSI Targets ‘Early’ EPL Slot With His Regional League Club

England-based Nigerian social media influencer, Olajide Olayinka Williams Olatunji (KSI) has rolled out a plan that he hopes will see his regional league club, Dagenham & Redbridge reach the English Premier League in record time.

Sports247 reports that KSI took a look at the massive surge that has been achieved by Arthur Okonkwo’s Wrexham, but the YouTuber, boxer, rapper and TV personality believes his English National League South side will achieve it faster.

KSI, who is also fondly called ‘JJ’ by close associates, continues hitting headlines after he bought 20 percent of Dagenham & Redbridge in March, as he took his passion for football further beyond his YouTube channel, KSI Music, which he started in 2009.

The channel, which was then known as KSIOlajidebt, built a following through his commentary videos of the FIFA video game series, after which he later diversified to include vlogs and comedic skits, but he retained his keen interests in football.

KSI was first involved in boxing with a ‘white-collar fight’ against Joe Weller in February 2018 and, a year later, he was ranked second by The Sunday Times in its list of most influential online creators from the United Kingdom.

His younger brother, Deji Olatunji, is also an influencer and professional boxer, previously known as Comedy Shorts Gamer; with the siblings ranked first and second as UK’s Most Influential YouTube Creators by Tubular Labs in 2015.

‘JJ’ decided early this year to expand into club ownership with his love for football, which was first highlighted when he participated as a player and co-captain for team AboFlah & KSI in ‘Match for Hope 2025,’ a charity that took place in Doha, Qatar.

He is now aiming at a better record than Wrexham, which soared rapidly from the English National League to the Championship, then almost reached the EPL this season, under the guidance of Hollywood owners, Butch Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Dagenham are currently four divisions below Wrexham, but KSI hopes it is only a matter of time before he and their Tinseltown owners also begin to dine and wine together with the best of England’s clubsides in the Premier League.

KSI told GQ: “The goal for Dagenham & Redbridge is to be in the Premier League with five promotions. I’m talking about 10 years, could be more. But it’s part of my life. Anything that’s under my wing will get all passion and love it deserves.

“You could argue Dagenham & Redbridge is going to have more attention than a lot of Championship sides. Think of a random Championship team like, Oxford United. I bet more people know about Dagenham & Redbridge than Oxford United.”
