This year’s edition of Volleyball National Division One & Two Leagues for both male and female teams will commence on the 24th to his month at Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, Sports247 reports.
This is sequel to a confirmation from Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), which pointed out that the upcoming matches will be in the first phase of the league, running from May 23rd to June 7th at the Indoor Sports Hall of Package B in Abuja.
The competition will feature participants from volleyball clubs, affiliated teams, military institutions and paramilitary agencies from across the country, who are all expected to arrive at the venue on May 23rd.
All participants would then be part of a technical meeting scheduled for the next day, May 24th, for deliberations on various issues affecting the competition, after which the matches will begin same day and hit a climax on June 6th.
A media statement from the NVBF added, “The league as a key platform for raising competitive standards, unearthing young talent, promoting national unity and preparing athletes for continental and international competitions.
“The League Management Committee will assemble clubs, sports institutions, military organizations, and paramilitary teams from across the country in what is expected to be one of the most competitive domestic championships in recent years.
“The NVBF remains steadfast in its mission to elevate the sport by organizing professionally structured leagues that create opportunities for athletes, coaches, referees, and administrators.”
Chairman of the NVBF’s media and publicity committee, Godspower Odedede added, “The federation views this championship as an essential platform for enhancing competitive volleyball standards across all divisions.
“(It is also for) discovering and nurturing emerging talents, promoting national unity through sportsmanship, strengthening institutional participation in Nigerian volleyball and preparing athletes and clubs for international opportunities.”
Sports247 reports further that the volleyball federation also expressed appreciation to stakeholders, clubs and government agencies for their continued support of the sport in general and the national league in particular.
