Sunday Oliseh Blows Hot; Declares – ‘Pay Players Well If You Want Them To Stay In Nigeria

Former Super Eagles’ captain and head coach, Sunday Ogorchukwu Oliseh has taken another swipe at clubs in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), with a verdict that poor payment of players leads to mass exodus of the country’s best talents.

Sports247 reports that Oliseh spoke against the backdrop of another sleruptuin of calls for the inclusion of home-based players in the Super Eagles’ forthcoming roster ahead of the 2026 Unity Cup in London.

However, the former Juventus of Italy, Borussia Dortmund of Germany and Ajax of Netherlands energetic midfielder inferred that Nigeria’s best domestic players are not in the league, because they keep moving abroad in search of better pay.

Oliseh, who played some years with Julius Berger FC in the domestic league before moving to Belgium while still an undergraduate at Lagos State University, stressed that better treatment is vital to curbing the rapid migration of home-based talents.

“Football is a business. When we were playing, there was never one month that they owed us. It might be small, but we were paid on time. If you want players to stay in Nigeria, ensure the league is conducive and okay,” the ex-international submitted.
