Sports247 gathered that the initial plan had been to stage the inter-house sports competition soon after the school’s recent maiden mini-Olympics, which was seen as a dress rehearsal for the main event.
The school’s mini-Olympics turned out to be a huge success, with students, teachers and staff having fun in five-a-side football and running events at Spice Arena, an astro-turf sports complex in Arida-Iyana Odo axis of Alimosho local government area.
The day’s fulfilled events, large gathering and leisure activities provided renewed hope and enthusiasm for even greater fun during the much-talked about inter-house sports contest.
Expectation was enhanced among the students that they would soon have another day to step out of the school’s complex for more sports activities; but all that has now changed, as the bigger occasion has been put on hold.
A member of the school’s management committee told Sports247 that plans for the school’s inter-house recreational competition had to be put on hold, due to the first term examination and upcoming Easter holiday.
“It’s true that we wanted to organise our inter-house sports day two weeks after our maiden mini-Olympics, which we did to test the interest of our students in physical activities outside the classroom.
“Our mini-Olympics was a big success, but we then found out that we did not have enough time to organise the inter house sports anytime before the first term exam begins.
“At the same time, there is a break of two public holidays for Easter, which will also shorten the time schedule that’s available to us; and we don’t want to rush into doing something that the children wouldn’t like.
“That’s why we decided to put the inter-house sports on hold until next term. We will just keep in store the things we’ve already arranged, so that we can have the Inter-house sports day early in third term,” the official explained.
