African Games organisers have confirmed that Egypt will host the 14th edition of the Games, scheduled to take place from January 20 to February 7, 2027.

The announcement brings the competition back to the Egyptian capital for the first time since 1991.

Cairo is expected to welcome thousands of athletes from across Africa, competing in a wide range of Olympic and non-Olympic sports, including athletics, football, swimming, boxing, handball and several emerging disciplines.

Events will be staged across multiple world-class facilities, with the Cairo International Stadium set to serve as a key venue.

The hosting rights were sealed following the signing of a host agreement between the Egyptian authorities and the African Union, reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to continental sports development and cooperation.

The return of the Games underscores Egypt’s growing influence in African sport, coming on the back of strong performances at recent editions, including a dominant showing at the 2024 Games in Accra.

With the countdown now underway, Africa will once again turn it’s a sporting spotlight on Egypt as Cairo prepares to host the continent’s biggest multi-sport festival in 2027.
